Day 3: Straddling the Prime Meridian

So, what you're looking at are my feet (on the left) and Marilynn's feet (on the right) as we straddle the Prime Meridian at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. I know you have no idea what the Prime Meridian is, so I'll wait while you go look it up.

  2. Ah, this was a great day when we visited, but sadly, another English shocker. This is the official marker for the world's measurement system. Should be sacred and scientific, eh? But, did you and Marilyn notice the small sign and marker 19 feet to your right? Some 100 years ago, they moved the marker 19 feet to the right - along with it, moving the whole global reference point for the world. And why? Because the Royal astronomer wanted his house an telescope in a better position. So he moved the line. And now you know the rest of the story.... Tom
